An updated version of ŠKODA FABIA R5 rally car has been unveiled to the press and public at the Geneva International Motor Show. The replacement for the most successful car in ŠKODA Motorsport’s history is presented in the racing livery which it will bear on the WRC stages in the near future. Thanks to virtual reality, the motor show visitors are able to experience the intense emotions of the rally - almost as if they were there.
The ŠKODA Motorsport management team are making no secret of the fact that the goal of the new car is nothing less than to continue the exceptional success of recent years. “The next generation of ŠKODA FABIA R5, our multiple world champion, is an important step towards keeping both our customers from all around the world and the ŠKODA factory team competitive during the next part of the car’s life cycle”, Michal Hrabánek, head of ŠKODA Motorsport, told us.
Besides updated looks with headlights matching the street version of the model, the new rally car has also gained a number of important technical innovations. Among them, an updated 1.6-litre turbocharged engine now offers more power and a better torque curve. All the modifications are aimed at improving the performance and reliability of the car.
