In the penultimate round of the Italian Rally Championship, the Rally di Roma Capitale, Umberto Scandola and his co-driver Guido D’Amore recovered from frustration in the first leg to secure overall victory and keep their championship challenge alive.
In the opening leg, they came so close to emerging top of the pile, missing out by just 0.5 seconds. But they kept their heads cool to win the second leg in their ŠKODA Italia Motorsport’s FABIA R5 and claim overall victory by a margin of just 5.9 seconds.
The points haul ensured they can still claim the drivers’ championship in the final round of the season and was just reward for a composed and brave drive in the most high-pressured of circumstances.
