ŠKODA Motorsport entered this season with three main goals. The first was to successfully launch the modernized ŠKODA FABIA R5 evo rally car. The second was for the works crew of Kalle Rovanperä and Jonne Halttunen to win the WRC 2 Pro* championship. That left them with only one goal left to achieve. In the penultimate round of WRC in Catalunya, the factory team wanted to secure a victory in the manufacturers’ championship. Besides Kalle and Jonne, their Czech teammates Jan Kopecký and Jan Hloušek also appeared on the starting line - with this aim in mind.
The unique character of RallyRACC Catalunya, with the combination of gravel and tarmac tracks, proved to be extremely challenging this year. For the whole three days, ŠKODA Motorsport fought intense battles with their competition, often with just seconds deciding the result. In the end, it became clear that the team is going to achieve its final goal as well – and both crews and the whole team could bid a spectacular farewell to their fans and thank them for a fantastic support throughout the year.
